Ferrwood Music Camp “Thank You” Breakfast and Blessing

On Friday morning at Ferrwood Music Camp a “thank you” breakfast was held recognizing the many individuals who were involved in replacing the kitchen that became obsolete. A photo was circulated showing the griddle refusing to warm up as a few hundred pancakes were waiting to be prepared! At the invitation of Phil Latella, music camp director and chef, a “maiden” breakfast was prepared as an expression of thanks to fellow volunteers and the CAN DO Community Foundation.  Board member Chris Stamatopoulos mentioned, “there are so many known and unknown people who have taken part in this project that became much more complicated than ever imagined”. Phil was assisted by a volunteer kitchen crew that return for every camp.

CAN DO Community Foundation Reaches Annual Fund Drive Goal

The CAN DO Community Foundation’s Annual Fund Drive Chairman, Earl C. Berger, is pleased to announce that the foundation reached its 2020 fund drive goal. The proceeds are benefiting the Ferrwood Music Camp.

CAN DO Director of Administration Nancy Stasko will retire on March 31

CAN DO announced that Director of Administration Nancy Stasko will retire on March 31 after nearly 26 years of service with the economic development organization.

Stasko, who is the second-longest tenured employee in CAN DO’s history, was hired on April 3, 1995, to serve as administrative assistant to then-President and CEO Kevin O'Donnell and was eventually promoted to Director of Administration.

CAN DO Community Foundation programs enrich the lives of students throughout Greater Hazleton

Over the past two decades, the CAN DO Community Foundation has enriched the lives of local high school and college students, as well as young student musicians attending Ferrwood Music Camp.

Because of the generous support of the community, three scholarship programs are awarded annually and include: Penn State Hazleton Scholarships; Junior Leadership grants through a program named after the founder of CAN DO titled the Edgar L. Dessen Community Service Award; and Camperships awarded to students at Ferrwood Music Camp through the generosity of annual named camperships funded by donors as well as a program recognizing CAN DO’s first director of industrial development, Joseph Yenchko.

Joseph Lettiere joins CAN DO Community Foundation Board of Directors

The CAN DO Community Foundation announced that CAN DO Executive Vice President Joseph Lettiere has joined the Board of Directors as the organization begins its 2020-2021 fiscal year.

 Lettiere will succeed Kevin O’Donnell as the head of CAN DO upon O’Donnell’s retirement at the end of 2020 and will become only the third paid CEO of the organization since its founding in 1956.

Throughout his 20-year career with CAN DO, Lettiere has risen in the ranks from an economic development specialist to director of marketing and then vice president before being promoted to executive vice president in 2019.
