There was a special evening held recently at Ferrwood Music Camp to celebrate the 50th anniversary since the music camp was first held at Ferrwood. The event included a blessing and dedication of the historic marker commemorating the camp as a National Register of Historical Places property.
Father Anthony Generose of Queen of Heaven Church, Reverend Earl Roberts lll of Lattimer United Methodist Church and Richard Kline, Chairman of the Ritual Committee of Agudas Israel Synagogue, blessed the plaque at the music camp during a ceremony that included a resolution by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives presented by Representative Tarah Toohil’s office. It was followed by an open-air concert that featured performances by the 250 student musicians.
Ferrwood Music Camp held a dedication of a historic marker followed by an open-air concert on July 14. Father Anthony, Generose of Queen of Heaven Church, Reverend Earl Roberts lll of Lattimer United Methodist Church and Richard Kline, Chairman of the Ritual Committee of Agudas Israel Syngogue, blessed the plaque at the music camp. The music camp has been the venue for music instruction and outdoor activities for youth since 1967. It is tucked away in Drums on Middle Road near the Drums Elementary School.
The CAN DO Community Foundation marked its 25th anniversary with a celebration Friday at Ferrwood Music Camp. The Annual Meeting was held in conjunction with the 50th anniversary since the music camp was first held at Ferrwood. The event included a blessing and dedication of the historic marker commemorating the camp as a National Register of Historical Places property. It was followed by an open-air concert that featured performances by the student musicians.
The Foundation has spent many years overseeing the restoration of Ferrwood. Thanks to the support of the community; donated labor and materials; contributions from individuals, businesses, foundations and unions; and various grants, the foundation is successful in its continuing effort of restoring the local landmark located in Drums.
A historic marker commemorating the Ferrwood Music Camp being selected for the National Register of Historic Places will be dedicated on Friday, July 14 at the music camp in Drums. The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation's historic places that have been deemed worthy of preservation.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony which will begin at 4:45 p.m. when the Reverend Anthony Generose and the Reverend Earl Roberts will conduct a brief ceremony to bless the bronze marker. The dedication will be part of a 25th anniversary celebration for the CAN DO Community Foundation, a major supporter of the music camp.
The CAN DO Community Foundation recently held its Board of Directors meeting at the Freeland YMCA and got a first-hand look at the restoration and improvements that have been made to the building’s façade as a result of the foundation’s involvement. The Freeland community requested the foundation’s assistance and over the past few years, the foundation has worked with the Freeland YMCA, to secure funding for the restoration of the façade and the support of a youth after school program.
